SUGGESTIONS
to help your student derive the most benefit from the Caribe
Vista experience:
M1. Write a letter of encouragement every 10 days to 2 weeks. Pleasant news ?
=only, please! Do not send "biting" letters without previous J
Hadministration permission. (If you have a letter you wish to make sure I
Gyour son/daughter will get for sure please photocopy the letter before J
Hyou send it, sometimes mail gets lost.) Students are required to write
home at least once a week.
M2. Send all mail plainly marked "AIRMAIL" with sufficient postage; the rate G
Eis 44 cents per 1/2 ounce. Post Office Aerograms are 39 cents. The
address is:
Student's Name
Escuela Caribe#
Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic
West Indies
J3. For gifts and presents, we recommend that you send a money order or a L
Jcertified check rather than a package. The student can then purchase the J
Hgift and this will avoid shipping and duty charges. If packages
Ibe sent, please send them to the NHYM office in Marion, Indiana. Please L
Jlimit packages to shoe box size and send them not more than one for every
three months.
I4. It is not possible to process Kodachrome slide film in the Dominican K
IRepublic. If your son/daughter wishes to use this type of film, it will I
Ghave to be sent to the US to be developed. Prints can be developed at
fairly reasonably cost.
N5. All packages sent to our Marion office for forwarding MUST be accompanied L
Jby a packing list and $1.50 per pound to cover excess baggage cost. Each
item
have a name on it.
M6. Upon arrival in the Dominican Republic, a phone call will be made by the J
Hstudent to his/her home to tell of his/her arrival here. Subsequently, @
>students will make collect calls only after written or verbal M
Kauthorization is received from home designating a suitable time and date. I
GParents may dial direct if this is prearranged. Calls are recommended K
Ievery other month. The first call will occur after the student has been
here for three months.
L7. Each student receives a weekly allowance which can be used for personal I
Gneeds, but it is strongly recommended that you send a minimum of $5.00 L
Jand a maximum of $10.00 to your son/daughter each month. It is safest to L
Jsend a money order or a certified check.
Do not send personal checks or
N8. Parental visits are recommended after one's child has been in the program K
Ifor five months. You will receive detailed infromation on visiting after K
Iyour child has been enrolled for two months. This is a great experience D
Band well worth the expense! Please make sure that you clear your G
Earrangements through the Marion office 60 days in advance and inform C
Escuela Caribe administration at least one month before you come.
L9. If the student wears glasses or contact lens, he/she will need an extra I
Gpair of corrective lenses (for glasses we suggest plastic for an extra C
Apair). Also, please include his/her most recent corrective lens K
Iperscription. If the student wears soft contact lens an adequate supply J
Hof saline solution for cold cleaning should be brought.
DO NOT
bring L
Jcontacts which require heat for cleaning. We
DO NOT
recommend extended /
wear contact lens for the Dominican Republic.
